Petralona Cave

​​Petralona Cave in Halkidiki Petralona cave is located 50 km from Thessaloniki and 19 km from our village Paralia Dionisiou Beach, this excursion will be very interesting for adults and children also. The cave was discovered not long ago – only in 1959 and became famous in 1960 after they discovered the famous fossilized skull of the oldest European man. The age of the skull which was found is 700,000 years old and was discovered among the traces of fireplace, which is considered to be the ancient evidence and significant site of using fire in Europe.

 

Children will be excited seeing with their own eyes stalagmites and stalactites of all shapes and sizes of Petralona and go through the cave, the length of which is about 2 km (the length of the excurcion is less so it is convinient for young children will not be tired). Don’t forget to take warm clothes - the all year round temperature inside the cave is 17°С!

 

 

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece. The population taking into accountsuburbs is 1 104 460 inhabitants living in the main area around the city.The city was founded in 315 B.C. by the king Cassander of Macedon, the son of captain Antipatr, whom Alexander the Great nominated sovereign's vicegerent in Macedonia.Paul the Apostle spread Gospel about Christianity (in 50 B.C.) in Thessaloniki and Roman proconsul Dimitry was martyrised here (303 B.C.) and became the patron saint of Thessaloniki.Thessaloniki joined the modern Greek state in 1913 which was burnt in 1917 and rebuilt in 1920.UNESCO marks Thessaloniki as a monument of world cultural heritage – there are many uniqie Byzantine monuments, churches and ancient ruins.This city is also famous for its active cultural life: with theatres, clubs, art galleries, exhibition- concert halls and museums.

 

Mount Athos

Athos peninsula, Halkidiki, Greece Athos (Oros Athos) is the third finger of the Halkidiki peninsula. On the peninsula of Athos is located the Holy mountain of Athos with a of height of 2033 meters above sea level. The land of Mountain Athos which forms one of the most beautiful parts of Greece, lays before the visitor all the grandeur of nature. The landscape is varied with small valleys and gorges, well wooded mountains interspersed with bare and precipitous rocks and occasional views of the coastline. Mountain scenery on one hand and the sea on the other create that essential framework of isolation in a different, strange world chosen by hermits for their monastic state. Mount Athos is a monastic state, which exists for more than a thousand years and in accordance with their own rules and laws, life and religion have not changed since Byzantine times. In its prime period there were more than 40 monasteries and some 4000 monks. 

Karidi Beach

Karidi Beach is a small bright diamont in Sithonia, an exotic beach with white sand and green waters, white rocks contrasting with the green pine trees.. 

Shallow, warm water that stays calm even when it is windy. Visit the beach early in the morning if you want to find a place for you and your family or late in the evening. 

On your way to Vourvourou, turn left following the signs. After 500 meters you will reach the green paradise.

Cavourotripes 

This is not an usual beach. All along the way there are well hidden sandy bays creating a wonderful scenery.
